Cup campaigns continue

Two North Shore clubs remain at the halfway point of the Chatham Cup.

Birkenhead beat East Coast Bays in another local derby in the national knockout football competitio­n on June 24, to progress to the fourth round to be played next month.

Birkenhead led 2-1 at halftime and pushed on to win 3-1, to keep their title defence alive.

Jack Salter scored twice for the visitors and David Parkinson scored Birkenhead’s other goal. Dillon Barnett scored for Bays.

Two first half goals was enough to see North Shore United through to the next round, with a 2-0 win over Matamata Swifts. Shore’s first goal, in the 15th minute, was an own goal. Herve Kadiya finished the scoring late in the half.

Takapuna exit the competitio­n with a 4-1 loss to Central United. All five goals in the game came in the second half.

Forrest Hill Milford and Glenfield Rovers are through to the quarter-finals of the Women’s Knockout Cup. Forrest Hill convincing­ly defeated Central United 8-0, with braces to Jasmine Waldren, Arabella Maynard and Chloe Knott and two own goals.

Glenfield held off Western Springs for a 2-1 win. Tessa Berger and Katie Rood scored Glenfield’s goals. The other quarterfin­alists are Three Kings, Eastern Suburbs, Palmerston North Marist, Upper Hutt City, Dunedin Technical and Coastal Spirit.
