Kia ora - It is good that Auckland Council is taking a breather on the Anzac St car park sale in Takapuna. I think it is a matter of finding a workable compromise though, with the council being desperate to raise funds. Let’s hope for a really good outcome in March. I got some inspiration on my recent trip to Argentina.

Every town centre had a generous plaza, complete with a fountain, creating a beautiful locale for both relaxation and civic occasions. Markets are a big feature of life in Buenos Aires, where they close streets and squares to accommodate them. In one suburb, the stalls take over bars, which don’t open until the evening. I hope Takapuna ends up with sufficient central parking, a pleasant and functional town centre and a viable future for the Sunday Market.

Meanwhile, we are getting somewhat inundated with emails and phone calls about parks that aren’t getting their grass trimmed. Plus, we hear reports of ongoing issues with overflowing bins. Rest assured, we will question the council over these issues. Stay posted. - Jodi Yeats
