Wednesdays are for walking

-

Walk to work and get a free coffee, says Yvette Batten.

Walk to Work Wednesdays, a Let’s Go initiative to get people more active during winter, is back again.

Every Wednesday during August people who have signed up for a special Walk to Work card will receive a hot coffee, chocolate or tea of their choice from participating cafes for $1 until 10.30am.

‘‘Walk to Work Wednesdays are our annual promotion to encourage people in those cooler weather months to get out and walk, ride or take the bus and to reward those who are already walking or riding,’’ Let’s Go spokeswoman Liz Beck said.

Beck said being active in winter got people out in the fresh air, increased productivity, was a great way to start the day with a clear mind.

This initiative started in New Plymouth in 2010 and has always been popular. Ozone has supported the initiative for three years.

‘‘I think it’s great to be able to support a community event,’’

Ozone chief executive Karla

Gichard said.

Participating cafes include Joe’s Garage, Petit Paris, Escape Coffee Roasters, The Federal Store, Little Fed, and Starbucks. People can sign up for the cards from Wednesday July 27, or any time during August.
