This hobby takes some licking

Dealers buy and sell at Taranaki’s annual stamp fair.

It is 80 years since a group of stamp collectors got together and formed what is now the Taranaki Philatelic Society.

The society meets at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each month, and members buy and sell stamps, covers, letters, envelops and other philatelic items.

Many collectors have been collecting stamps for their entire lives and have a wide range of interests.

Collectors will often gather all of the stamps from a particular country or topic.

On Saturday August 6 the society is holding its annual Stamp Fair in the Blind Foundation Hall in Vivian St. Five dealers, four from out of Taranaki, will be buying and selling stamps, and giving people advice on value of any stamps that they may have with them.

There will be pages of stamps on display as part of a competition that is run every year by the society to commemorate Charles Lilley, a stalwart of the club and for many decades a stamp dealer in New Plymouth.

This is a great opportunity for people to get those old albums out of the cupboard to rekindle their earlier interest in stamps.

Doors open at 10am and close at 4pm. Entry is free. For more information call Murray, club secretary, on 06 754 6212.
