POTTERY: This month, New Plymouth Potter’s Vicarage Gallery is featuring Pottery by Angela Tee. Angela loves brightly coloured vessels as well as those with earthier glazes. She especially enjoys coiling pots and regularly attends our Monday club nights where potters can work alongside likeminded people. ART CAFE: Local artists Vikki Mardon, potter, and Derek Hughes, photograph­er, have work on show on the exhibition wall at the Art Cafe´ in Top Town until the end of

October. Celebratin­g Spring: New Beginnings Mardon’s bowls, prettily decorated with colourful petals, feature mainly hydrangea flowers, blossom and butterflie­s. Hughes’ works, printed on linen, feature the mountain. The Art Cafe´ is open weekdays 8am – 4pm (3.30pm on Fridays) and Saturdays from 9.30am – 2pm. QUIET ART: Visit and explore the exhibition­s at the Govett Brewster Art Gallery at the quietest time of the week. This time is suitable for people within the autism spectrum and visitors who want some space in the galleries. Every Monday, 3.30-6pm. FAMILY ART: Drop-in interactiv­e art-making sessions for the whole family at Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre. Call in on Sundays between 1-3pm for free family-friendly art making activities inspired by the current exhibition­s. GABLES GALLERY: The North Taranaki Arts Society has new art classes scheduled at the Gables Studio. These drawing classes will be taken by Jan Huijbers, and are for intermedia­te level participan­ts. The sessions will focus on the use of colour and colour theory. The classes will take place on Saturday mornings October 15 - November 5, then November 19 - 26. The Society’s new exhibition, Gardens and Flowers, is now showing at the Gables and will be on throughout the PowerCo Garden Festival. EXHIBITION: Mokau Museum and Art Gallery. NZ PREMIERE: The Farmer and the Prince, featuring HRH Prince Charles. This documentar­y discusses feeding the world and organic farming. 1pm, with free entry. The Projection Series #4: Man Without a Camera has a short interview with the artist about his practice and a survey of his films including A Colour Box (1935) and Free Radicals (1958).

FILM ABOUT DESIGN: A revealing look at the life story of the highly influentia­l mid-century modern design master Herbert Matter. SET IN MOTION: On Saturday October 22, take a tour of the kinetic sculpture and experiment­al projection exhibition Set in Motion with its curator Sarah Wall. The guided tour of the exhibition, which includes work by Len Lye, is free entry from 2pm.
