Ups and downs of life

- KATH BROWN OPINION

THUMBS UP

TO: The Tropfest film festival. Perhaps we could have kept it if people paid to see it. Asking for money is not a crime.

TO: The Hay Day celebrations at Waitara Rd on the weekend. A reminder of more simple, uncomplicated times — and not a computer in sight. Today there are children who have never seen a tractor and if some of the more strident greenies have their way there will be many more who never will in the future.

THUMBS DOWN

TO: The cost of keeping the Len Lye Centre running. When will enough be enough? Let’s just rename it the Len Lye Bottomless Pit.

TO: Yet another fatality on SH3. We know it’s expensive but can’t something be done to improve that road now? After all what price do you put on saving lives?

TO: The American car that parked in the disabled carpark in town at the weekend. We know your car is bigger than most but that does not give you the right to deprive a disabled person of somewhere to park.
