Ups and downs of life
THUMBS UP
TO: All those volunteers who give up their own time to sell raffle tickets and do sausage sizzles outside supermarkets and big stores. You are true heroes.
TO: All those involved in resurrecting St Mary’s Cathedral so that it will be bigger and better than ever. After all it is New Zealand’s oldest stone church and the community should get behind this great project because it is not just for the parishioners.
TO: Those parents who are taking advantage of free injections for their children. Being responsible helps the whole community.
TO: Cutting waste. This is a nobrainer. Burying our rubbish is no longer an option and it is high time ordinary people heeded the call to recycle and reuse.
THUMBS DOWN
TO: Sausage sizzlers who need to remember when selling sausages in bread, to butter the bread (or use a spread). It reeks of meanness not to. After all when was the last time you made a sandwich at home without any spread or butter?
TO: NZ Post. It seems to be in denial after evidence showing unacceptable delays in delivering the mail. After all it’s not cheap, so come on, fix it.
TO: Those people who prefer to believe the rubbish they read on Google rather than real science and scientists.
TO: Those people at council who refuse to consider the technology that turns the green waste going to the landfill into organic compost within 24 hours, instead of 12 months. If the mayor and his councillors are serious about zero waste they need to look to the future for the answers.
