North Taranaki Midweek

Ups and downs of life

- KATH BROWN OPINION

THUMBS UP

TO: Restaurants who provide a wine bucket with the bottle especially when it is accompanied by friendly, knowledgeable service. The lovely little restaurant at Egmont Village has been upgraded and the new owners are providing a great place to eat and drink.

TO: Letting children get up close and personal with animals as seen in this week’s Midweek. If everybody did this then perhaps we would never hear about cats and kittens getting shot.

THUMBS DOWN

TO: The cavalier attitude some supermarkets have to bread. It seems that it does not matter if a particular bread is popular, the orders will not reflect that. Do the people who do the ordering not know that miles of white bread left on the shelves is a sign that people don’t want it?’’

TO: More bread gripes. I recently bought a loaf of wheatmeal sandwich bread. Now I knew this because that is what it said on the outside of the packet. Imagine my surprise when I opened it to find that it was actually white toast bread. It’s getting too cold to go back to the supermarket and try to get what I wanted and my chances of actually getting it would be slim.
