Outreach for all

- CHRISTINE WALSH

A new outreach group has sprung up to fill the gap left by the disbanding of Bell Block’s 30-yearold Craft and Care group.

The volunteer craft group had dedicated their talents and time to sharing a raft of creative mediums such as sewing, knitting, painting, crochet, weaving, and more.

‘‘It was an important weekly social gathering for Bell Block residents during this time – particularly people living on their own,’’ said Sue Pitman, organiser of their ‘‘thank you’’ event.

However, when one door closes another door opens.

Pitman recognised the need for the St Luke’s congregation to have a greater presence in the community and she saw an opportunity in the craft group’s end.

‘‘We wanted something we can really own and say we can provide as a community group,’’ Pitman said.

Wanting to make a tangible difference she put her money where her mouth was, so to speak, and allied her St Luke’s troops to provide a new outreach group.

St Luke’s congregation has taken up providing this service and people who participate can expect to see guest speakers, entertainers, learn new crafts, be challenged with board games, and enjoy a cuppa and a chat.

People are invited to attend every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at St Lukes in Bell Block.
