Fine drama at Cue Theatre

Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite is one of his most famous plays

by Neil Simons

Many people will have heard the phrase ‘‘Get a room’’, which is usually directed at over enthusiastic lovers, but hotel rooms are booked for many reasons.

Hotels, especially the famous ones, represent a different world, and when we stay in one we feel removed from everyday life for a while. We are surrounded by luxury, fine food and wines, and the attentive service of waiters and maitre d’s who exist simply to please us. For a brief time, there is soft music, romance, escape … that’s the plan, anyway.

Neil Simon has written some of the best plays known in the theatre world, and Plaza Suite is one of the most famous.

Cue Theatre has been fortunate to have one of Taranaki’s most talented directors, Heather Harrison, undertake the production of this intriguing piece, which will open on November 1 and run until November 11.

The room in which the story is set is number 719 in the glamorous New York Plaza Suite Hotel. Three couples have booked the room for three different dates and three very different reasons. As audiences, we will become involved for a brief time, and we will laugh with them, and share their pain too.

Neil Simon’s skill as a playwright is in portraying ordinary people and their emotions.

We will understand exactly how they feel as we watch them deal with critical events in their lives.

The Cue team is proud to offer Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite as our end of year entertainment.

This will be a great show. It is fast moving, funny, and fascinating and like the Plaza Hotel in New York, it is classy!
