Musical talent runs in these families

-

This year’s charity concert at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Fitzroy is one with a difference.

Concert director Rodney Dunlop has gathered together a number of musical families, who share both a love of music and abilities that blend together. They will sing or play with other members of their family, to present a unique programme of musical talent.

Among them are Caleb, Joshua and Luke Todd , three brothers who have being playing cello, viola and violin together for the past two years. Caleb the eldest of the three, has been nominated as a candidate for the NP Boy’s High School Performing Artist for 2018. They will combine to present a stringed trio playing music by Mozart and Verdi.

Also in the programme are Leo and Edison Zhou, talented young brothers who will play solo and in duets on the piano.

Paul Bowers-Mason will join with his wife Wynn, in a bracket of popular songs that they will accompany on their quitars, evoking lots of foot tapping to familiar airs.

Jillian Southern has been singing in choirs and as a solo artist, for many years in and around New Plymouth, but in this concert she will be joined by her brother Jeff who recently moved back to New Plymouth. Together they will sing songs we all enjoy.

And from Ha¯wera, comes a family of six talented young musicians, not unlike the Von Trapps, who will play a range of instruments and together bring us the joy of musical talent.

Others taking part are Wellington De Silva, a native of Brazil, and the leader of the New Plymouth Symphony orchestra, and the delightfully talented Living Harmony Choir, under their director Beth Hockey.

This is a concert no one should miss. It will be raising funds to support those in Vanuatu who have had to flee in the wake of the volcanic eruption, and refugees displaced by war, famine and racial persecution in different parts of the world.

Come early to get a good seat. Special treats will again be served at the interval.

The concert takes place on Saturday November 11 at 7.30pm, and following the enthusiastic audiences over the past three years, it will present the usual high standard of performance, and bring great delight to music lovers.
