Far North set for Daffodil Day

Daffodil Day events will be splashing the Far North with the colour yellow during the Cancer Society’s flagship fundraisin­g events on August 26.

Street stalls will be held in Te Kao, Kaeo, Kaitaia, Ohaeawai, Russell and Paihia with a number of other events also planned.

Donations go towards research into the causes and treatment of cancer as well as providing support services for people affected by the disease.

In Northland the Cancer Society nurse’s role has recently been expanded to offer support, informatio­n and advocacy services for people living with cancer and their families.

In Mangonui after eight years of hard work volunteer Doug McCoull has stepped aside.

The Cancer Society wishes to acknowledg­e McCoull and his team of Lions for their fundraisin­g efforts over the years.

Kuki Fren has stepped in to lead this year’s team of Lions who are holding a big breakfast and sausage sizzle.

The Cancer Society relies solely on donations and sponsorshi­p for its income.

Kerikeri events include lunches and dinners at local restaurant­s, a ‘‘winning window’’ competitio­n and school artwork.

Kaikohe’s Northland College will hold a Daffodil Day Breakfast from 6.30am to 9am with a quiz night to be held later that evening at the Kaikohe RSA.
