Moerewa tackle shop to close

- BAYLEY MOOR

After 25 years, Sea Bandit Fishing Tackle in Moerewa will close its doors.

The store was built in 1924 and operated as a general store then a secondhand store before Yolande and Lance Halliday purchased it from Lance’s parents in 1992.

Since the Halliday’s took over the premises they transitioned into selling new items and turned it into a fishing/tackle shop.

The Opua General Store will be Yolande’s new place of employment while Lance has a contract to provide a patient transfer service for St John, based in Kawakawa, and will also continue his volunteer work with them as a first responder.

Yolande says they are looking forward to the next phase of their lives and are especially excited for their first grandchild arriving in April.

Lance says if they don’t do it now it would be hard too.

‘‘It’s been a great business and we have had a lot of support. We just want a change and to slow down and enjoy life so we can travel more and live abroad again in the future.’’

With no other local tackle shop to compete with and parking available for large trucks and campervans the couple have enjoyed a successful business.

The Halliday’s wish to thank their loyal customers as well as their children, Lance and Nikita and Lance’s parents Cliff and Dori Halliday.
