Largest Skoda SUV will have small engine
All Kodiaq models have automated dual-clutch gearboxes (DSG in VW/Skoda-speak): sixspeeds for the TSI models and a seven-cog shifter for the TDI.
Tow ratings are 1.8 tonnes for the FWD and two tonnes for the 4WDs.
‘‘NZ has a ravenous appetite for SUVs, and we’re seeing unprecedented levels of interest,’’ says Skoda NZ general manager Greg Leet.
‘‘With SUVs accounting for 52 per cent of new car sales last year, we’re looking forward to going head-to-head with the big volume models.’’
The Kodiaq’s entry price is $2000 less than the smaller VW Tiguan with the same engine. The longwheelbase Tiguan Allspace sevenseater, which is closely related to the Kodiaq, is yet to be launched here. But it’ll be even more expensive.
All Kodiaq models get a power tailgate (Virtual Pedal remoteopening is standard on Style, $645 on Ambition), Climatronic air conditioning, phone projection technology for Apple and Android, Front Assist autonomous emergency braking with Pedestrian Monitor, full LED headlights and parking radar front and rear (with camera).
The Ambition+ features full leather upholstery with heated front seats, three-zone air-con, an integrated SIM card slot for in-car wi-fi and customisable mood lighting.
The flagship Style gets adaptive cruise control, self-parking, blindspot warning, lane-assist, 19-inch wheels and adaptive chassis technology. All are available as options on the Ambition versions.
Skoda has also gone all-out with its signature ‘simply clever’ design ethos. The Kodiaq’s surprise-anddelight features include door-edge protectors that automatically pop out, cupholder grips that allow you to open bottles one-handed, an integrated umbrella and a removable LED torch.
