WASTE PROPOSAL

Residents can have their say on the Far North District Council’s draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan. The plan sets out how the district can better manage and minimise waste over the next six years. Under the proposal, council aims to reduce waste going to landfill from 300kg per person this year to 200kg by 2023. Refundable deposits on drink containers and the opening of eight new recycling centres are two proposals. ‘‘We cannot keep building new landfills...we need to do better, and we can do better,’’ mayor John Carter says.
