Northern News

I had to drive to Auckland for a work thing recently.

My appointment was at 9am in the city - and yes I was dreading the traffic. But it’s only for one morning, I told myself.

It took over 90 minutes to get from east Auckland to the office 90 long, tedious, frustrating minutes. According to Google Maps, the journey should have taken 22 minutes.

It just shows you how demented Auckland traffic has become. Having to deal with the endless traffic jams of our biggest city on a daily basis must be utterly depressing.

It made me realise how grateful I am to live in the North. Yes we have logging trucks to deal with, and lots of road works.

We’ve got a few dodgy drivers on our roads - like those lunatics who drove into a mob of hapless cows in March. And there are a few intersections that seem like they would be no-brainers to fix [Waipapa].

But all in all, we’ve got it pretty sweet up here.
