RUBBISH DISGRACE

-

The care of our seas starts at our roadside. The gutters on our streets and the edge of our roads are a disgrace.

Around Kaikohe and surrounds, including SH12, all manner of trash is dropped or thrown out of vehicles.

Ultimately this rubbish ends up in the waterways and on into the Hokianga Harbour and the sea.

The council could put up more signs and fine offenders. Schools and marae could talk about their local environment.

Parents need to teach their children - or maybe these days, the children teach their parents to appreciate and respect our planet Earth.

At the moment there is no plan B when this beautiful world of ours is polluted by uncaring people.

The habitat of other species is extremely important. Don’t be ignorant and lazy - your rubbish is your responsibility.

NIGHTMARE INTERSECTION

It is very difficult to turn right into SH10 when you are heading out of town on Waipapa Road after 5pm. It feels like it will never be your turn.

Some people turn left and then turn right into the little street passing the Liquor Store and heading back in the Kaeo direction, that however makes a new pile-up in SH10 as the road is not wide enough at that point for other cars to pass.

It would be good if they could put up temporary traffic lights until they can do new road changes. Also, have an extra lane for the guys turning left out of Waipapa Rd. I am one of the lucky ones that turn left at this stage but would have to be one of the right turners soon.

I was wondering if it would be easier to leave town at the other end (Kerikeri/SH10) but then I have to get through town traffic in Kerikeri Rd and it is also much further.

Kapiro Rd could be an option, however then I have to come back all the way to get to Pungaere Rd, that is quite a long way. Priscilla Kuhn Kerikeri
