BARRIERS QUESTIONED

You can’t help but notice the safety fence along the edges on Puketona Rd.

It is a substantial fence, that looks very much like the crash barrier used to separate multilane oncoming traffic on a motorway. Like in Auckland.

Some questions are obvious like why is the barrier there and who is it protecting? Why does it line such a tiny portion of Puketona Rd and where should cyclists ride and pedestrians walk? To me it reeks of bureaucracy – spending lots of other people’s money and achieving very little.
