tives from clubs around Northland, and they were joined by the other guests for socialising at the nineteenth.

Thirteen of the original foundation members were present and one who had played on the opening day also played in the anniversary round.

It was a highlight to have Stella Silich present, who with husband Lionel were the previous owners of the golf course land. They were enthusiastic supporters of the club and in addition to selling the land to the club at a very favourable price, were tireless club members over the years of development.

Lionel was elected the first life member of the club in recognition of his support.

The anniversary was celebrated by the unveiling of a taonga carved by club member Hugh McKechnie in the form of a stylised waka.

This taonga was blessed by Hemi Epiha

and named Te Waka Manawanui to recognise the character of the founding members and their determination and commitment to develop a golf course for the community.

A striking anniversary cake closely depicting the par 3 13th feature hole was cut by Stella Silich.

Several club juniors played on the day, and the youngest two were presented with commemorative golf balls with the instruction that these would be suitable for play in the next major club celebration.

All present were enthusiastic to be there to see them tee off.

The course is in wonderful condition and always presents an enjoyable playing experience.

New members and green fee players are always very welcome. Contact the club on (09) 407 8837 or email office@boigc.co.nz.
