Back country tour
A 190km back country ride through the heartland of the Hurunui District.
Waikari G.P. Doctor Richard McCubbin is spearheading an initiative to keep cyclists safe, on a 190km back country ride enjoying the heartland of the Hurunui District.
His proposed route starts in Amberley and finishes in Kaikoura.
To raise money for signage, maps and promotion, a special car tour travelling over the early stages of the proposed route will take place on Sunday October 2nd.
Organised by Trevor StanleyJoblin of Amberley, who has 44 years of experience in running classic car rallies and shows, the tour will start at the Hurunui District Council car park in Amberley.
This one-off event is open to all vehicles, including vintage and classic and irrespective of age or type. Unlike classic events, the route on this occasion involves some gravel touring roads, which are twisting, undulating, but very scenic.
A big percentage of the total route is over very good sealed roads.
The final destination is at an historic homestead where there will be a special display of veteran vehicles manufactured from 1886-1918 as part of the National Veteran Car Rally.
The cost, payable at the start venue, is $10 per vehicle.
Participants are advised to bring a picnic lunch.
Report time is from 9.30am with close-off at 10.30am. Vehicles will be despatched progressively.
