There are some water systems in Canterbury that need to be remediated. The reality is that some will not be swimmable all the time and for the likes of Lake Forsyth, has it ever been swimmable, due to natural effects. It seems that the Selwyn has degraded a lot recently, some of this is due to agricultural activity but also how much is due to the extremely low rainfall over a long period that has not given the system a ‘‘Winter Flush’’.
