Parish pair win National ATV titles in Amberley

- JONATHAN LEASK

An Amberley brother and sister claimed national titles on their home track at the New Zealand ATV Motocross Championship

Angus Parish took the honours in the 250cc production class while his younger sister Caitlyn claimed the win in mini-quad kids grade in Amberley over Labour weekend.

While the Parish family collected titles, Taranaki’s Keegan brothers, Camo and Scott, kept the national quad bike title in the family.

Younger brother Scott won the title in Taranaki last season, but 27-year-old Camo reclaimed the main prize he last held in 2013 by narrowly edging out local hopeful and 2014 champion Ian Ffitch

Ffitch won two of the weekend’s seven races in the premier grade with the the Amberley man also finishing runner-up on three occasions. But Stratford’s Camo Keegan won five of the premier races to finish the championship 11 points ahead of the 46-year-old Ffitch.

‘‘It was really close racing between me and Ian (Ffitch), back and forth throughout the races, and I was only taking the wins by a bike length in the end,’’ Camo Keegan said.

Defending champion Scott Keegan collided with Ffitch in race five, the first of Sunday’s races, and was unable to continue, instead going to hospital to have his injured hand attended to.
