Lorna’s 100 year milestone

- KIM NUTBROWN

Lorna Creamer celebrated her 100th birthday at Ballarat Care Home In Rangiora on Tuesday, surrounded by her family and friends.

It was the second of two celebrations for Lorna, the first was with just family and friends on Sunday, but on Tuesday it was her actual birthday with the care home putting on a party for her.

Lorna said it was a very special occasion, not only for reaching the 10 decade milestone, but for having her family by her side to celebrate. A Kaiapoi resident all of her life with the exception of the past two years which she has spent in the Rangiora care home, Lorna is extremely close to her family, especially her only child Graeme Creamer who now lives in Nelson – but calls her at the same time every morning.

To have her family there to celebrate her birthday, including her three grandsons and six greatgrandchildren, was the greatest gift of all for Lorna.

‘‘They are lovely, I love them all,’’ she said.

Lorna’s daughter-in-law Marie Creamer said Lorna is dearly loved by her family and has been a huge part of all of their lives.

‘‘Lorna lived directly across the road from us in Kaiapoi. When my sons were younger if they didn’t like what I’d baked they’d just go across the road to Nana’s and eat her baking,’’ Marie said.

Lorna, who is described by her family as quiet and refined, was very humble about her special birthday.

‘‘It is wonderful to turn 100, I can’t quite believe it. I don’t feel 100,’’ she said
