Northern Outlook in Pegasus Fun Run

- KIM NUTBROWN

It’s exactly one month today until the Pegasus Fun Run, and the Northern Outlook team is gearing up to give it a go.

Our team of four – Jonathan Leask, Emma Dangerfield, Shannon Beynon and myself – have committed to being in shape for the event.

Some of us are going to run it (or run after our kids) while others are going to walk it, probably with a dog in tow, or towed by the dog.

Either way, we have decided to make fitness a goal for ourselves ahead of summer and the Pegasus Fun Run is an amazing fitness goal because it’s achievable - with a distance and discipline to suit all fitness levels.

The Fun Run is family focused, so those excuses about not having the time to train because we have kids don’t cut it.

We can make kids part of the training and certainly part of the event on the day.

Event manager Jules Wilke from Sport Canterbury said the event is perfect to push a pram or a buggy and take in the stunning scenery along the way.

‘‘The course is scenic, with stunning vistas to the foothills of North Canterbury, appealing to many participants who return year after year.’’

The Northern Outlook team is excited about taking part in an event which is not only going to improve our fitness, but promises to be a lot of fun.

Wilke said that’s the reason why so many competitors come back year after year.

‘‘Our participants always comment on the atmosphere of this event; the warmth, crowd support and social aspect.

‘‘People come to enjoy themselves – that’s the theme, year after year.’’

As part of our fitness challenge we will also be taking part in Steptember, a fund raiser for children and adults with cerebral palsy. We will be wearing pedometers and taking at least 10,000 steps per day.

Shannon, Emma and I will also be taking part in the Snap Fitness Rangiora 8-week challenge. Keep an eye on our progress and join us along the way. If we can do it you can too.
