ROUNDABOUT PROPOSAL

The Waimakariri District Council is seeking feedback on whether a roundabout should be installed at the Williams, Beach and Smith Sts intersection in Kaiapoi. Councillor John Meyer said ‘‘it’s always been a bit of a tricky intersection to navigate, particularly during peak hours’’. The continued development in north Kaiapoi and at Beach Grove has increased traffic volumes and council has money set aside for the project, but wanted to engage the community. The council’s plan would have Smith St become an arterial road through to the town centre, rather than people using the Charles, Sewell and Cass Sts. Submissions close on November 13 and the feedback presented to the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board on November 20.
