NC athletes running away with top results

- ATHLETICS

North Canterbury Athlete, Xanthe Jane (12), has been named the Shoe Clinic Junior Canterbury Athlete of the week following a great performance in her first cross country race of the season. The event was the Hagley Memorial Relays held recently in North Hagley Park. Xanthe had a superb run completing her 2 km lap in a smart 6m 68s making her the fastest in her grade. Xanthe ran as part of the winning girls 12 year age grade team consisting of Pippa Baker, Kirsty Watts and Mya Phillip.

In the same event the girls 14 grade team placed a very good third in their division.

Another highlight of the relay races was an unexpected victory for the Masters Women’s team. Rebecca McLean, Ngaire Baker, Jo Ramsey and Natasha Mitchell all ran excellent laps to secure their well deserved win. The Senior Men’s team finished in a creditable 6th place in their highly competitive grade.

The Lionel Fox relays held at Woodend Beach saw a further strong turnout from the local North Canterbury Club with three junior teams showing they are a force to be reckoned with. Great performances were recorded with Aaron Revill running 2nd fastest in the boys 12 age group and Xanthe Jane achieving the third fastest girls time. Navajo Prentice showed good form to run 4th fastest in the Senior Womens team’s event, despite still being a Womens 20 grade athlete.
