LOCATION AN ESSENTIAL FACTOR
Self- sufficiency is a prerequisite for thriving in the Chathams – where the local community is regarded as one of the wealthiest in New Zealand – primarily due to the booming crayfish and paua industry, as well as kina, blue cod and livestock exports.
“For our honey business Kaai and I were inspired by the self- sufficiency, resilience and collaboration of the Islanders, says Francesca. We are just experiencing it on a different level.”
She sees their Go Wild business and local tourism as intertwined.
“Promoting tourism will definitely increase awareness of the existence and value of our freeze dried honey,” she says. “Our location is an essential factor in our brand story.
“How the first bees arrived here, the lack of disease, the endemic plants, the innovative shape and texture of our product, and our recipes – these are our ingredients for success.”
And let’s not forget the two women behind Go Wild – their story, their path, their vision; that's something you don't hear about every day.
