CANTERBURY VOLKSWAGEN ENTHUSIAST CLUB
The Canterbury Volkswagen Enthusiast Club was formed in July 1986 to cater for owners of these German automobiles. Our aim is to provide the opportunity for people to meet others with a common interest. The club was formed with the intention of being low-cost, easy going and of course enjoyable for all those involved. Events are held on a regular basis, and a newsletter comes out bi-monthly. The club caters for all Volkswagens, from early vehicles right through to the new Beetle. At present we currently have 40 members which include; Ivan, semi-retired, who bought his 1970 Beetle brand new off the showroom floor in Wolfsburg, Germany; Brett, 17, with his first vehicle, a 1970 Beetle, which he fully restored; Craig and Emily with their recently and beautifully restored 1964 Kombi Transporter and lots of others with their pride and joys, whether they are Beetles or Kombis or a collection of both. Some of the events that we have run over the past year have included a guided tour of the Wigram Museum, visits to amazing car collections, camping away weekends, but the latest and the one that was really enjoyed by those that attended, was our Christmas BBQ which was held at a farm in Cust. Following the BBQ there were competitions run which included a time trial around a course and then a blind driver run around the same course or the option to test your vehicle out in the paddock with skids and spins. Lots of fun was had by all, both the drivers and the spectators.
Club meeting venue: Meetings are on the last Wednesday of the month, from 7.00pm at Zeroes Cafe, Cashmere Road, by Princess Margaret Hospital. Everyone is welcome — parking (& coffee) on-site. Contact details are www.canterburyvwclub. co.nz and www.facebook.com/ CanterburyVolkswagenEnthusiastClub.
