NZ Classic Driver

OTAGO VW CLUB

-

We have a membership of around forty families, which equates to around a hundred people and maybe sixty or more VWs in total. We have a general meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm upstairs at The Kensington, 4 King Edward Street, South Dunedin.

Members’ cars range from early Oval window and sixties/seventies Beetles, custom, modified and Cal Look Beetles, beach buggies, off-road rails, split and bay window Kombis, T25 vans, early Golfs and Siroccos, later GTI, V5 and VR6 Golfs, and a number of “everyday” Golfs, Polos and new Beetles.

We have a regular Club cruise on the Sunday following the meeting, if there isn’t anything specific organised for that month and we aim to put on events such as autocross time trials, orienteering/treasure hunt events, Christmas barbecues, Guy Fawkes night celebrations, weekend trips to Central Otago; all kinds of social and fundraising events. We recently held a quiz night at The Kensington and raised $1,700 for the local NICU unit.

At Easter 2012 we organised and hosted the VW Nationals held in Dunedin. The main car show was held inside the Forsyth Barr Stadium, and is the first and only car show to take place in the world’s first and only covered grassed stadium (as far as I am aware….)

We are currently trying to organise some of our nicest classic Beetles to be wedding cars for one of our younger members who is getting married in Alexandra on the 4th January, together with a Club convoy in attendance.

We also publish a regular newsletter and membership costs $15 per household. Our website is www.vwotago.co.nz
