Filipendula ulmaria ‘Aurea’ (golden meadowsweet)
This is an unusual, astilbe-like perennial with clouds of fluffy white flowers in summer and golden foliage in the growing season. It’s usually grouped as a bog plant and in such places in spring it looks great beside Siberian iris and bugles (ajuga) in blue, but it grows perfectly well in any ordinary soil so team it with some late-flowering blues too, such as lobelias and salvias.
