Contrasting colours

-

1 CARROTS: We mainly harvest carrots for their edible roots in their first year but if you leave them in the ground for a second year they produce theses umbelliferous flowers. Mainly they are white, but some purple carrot varieties will produce purple flowers!

2 GARLIC CHIVES: These pompom flowers last for 10 days in the vase. 3 ORACH: Orach can be red, purple or green depending on the cultivar grown. There are also what is called white orach, which has chartreuse-yellow leaves and flowers.

4 CHINESE BROCCOLI (GAI-LAN): This fast growing broccoli also produces lots of edible side shoots. 5 BASIL: Basil’s flowers are edible (although can be bitter). 6 LEEK: Leek flowers come in purples, lilacs and whites.
