JAPANDI IT’S THE NEW SCANDI

Traditional Japanese meets Scandinavian design

- WORDS BE A TAYLOR

It was only a matter of time before ever-popular Scandi design was challenged. We’ve noticed a new trend emerging in the form of Scandi’s elegant older cousin – Japandi. “It’s where the Japanese wabi-sabi of finding beauty in the imperfect meets the Nordic influence of effortless living,” says GlobeWest design manager Maria Diaz Valentin. Think elegant simplicity; less casual than Scandi, but more relaxed than traditional Japanese interiors. This style includes more dramatic contrasts and pairs charcoal, black or dark oak stained pieces with Scandi-style light oak. Look for soft accents in mint, emerald and navy tones, as well as textured linens and earthy handmade accessories.
