HE SAYS, SHE SAYS

A few years ago there was a story about a garden near Nelson, which had a beautiful octagonal structure in which they grew berries and vegetables free from the predations of voracious birds. Friends of ours were neighbours of the couple and so we arranged to visit. When I saw the octagonal garden frame I had to have one to house my berries. It was finally finished this winter and cost a lot – we had to employ a craftsman builder to fashion the roof – and my husband Harry cursed “bloody NZ House & Garden” throughout the build. Each raspberry has cost at least $10, he claims. I am ever grateful to NZ House & Garden, but Harry wishes the magazine had never been invented.
