DEAD KEEN

-

Why taxidermy? “I personally love taxidermy,” says homeowner Tara-Jayne Stapleton, “as it gives us an opportunity to see beautiful creatures up close and truly appreciate their fur, feathers or horns. I would never have a chance to stroke a peacock’s torso feathers and admire the texture and colours. I hope that if people can appreciate their beauty and grace in a safe environment, they will appreciate them more in their natural habitats.”

How do you choose it? “I only buy antique taxidermy or ones that have passed from natural causes. The skill of the taxidermist is important... I look for a natural position, and the eyes can make or break the realism.”

How does everyone react? “People seem to either love it or hate it. I consider them members of the family and name them all.”
