Demonstrating social and environmental responsibility is no longer a tack-on for many New Zealand businesses. It is becoming a core principle. A key driver in the campaign to equip New Zealand’s commercial sector with a desire to do good is the Sustainable Business Network. From large-scale corporates and government agencies to small-scale food producers and social entrepreneurs, it emboldens businesses to reshape the meaning of profit into a wider definition beyond a numbers game.
Young people in New Zealand have a millennial conscience – a real concern about what’s going on and how they can make a difference. When they set up a business it’s driven by a desire to solve a problem and by passion. It will have a triple bottom line; profit (necessary to sustain the business), people and society.
