Past: A true country girl, Tracey Grant loves wide open spaces, animals and people and has chosen a career that has provided her with what she calls the “unique opportunity of being able to see life through a camera’s lens”. With 30 years on the job (mainly in news media), she describes her body of work as an eclectic showcase of people, places and things. Present: Tracey now runs a photography studio and gallery from an old character farmhouse in Whanganui that she’s lovingly renovated. At home in her offi ce, she is surrounded by birdsong; a cat and dog are her co-workers. It’s all very different from the newsroom in which she started. A lover of portraiture, she says capturing connections and emotions (especially between her wedding clients) is what really makes her heart sing. Future: This year she’s traveling to Brisbane, fulfi lling a dream to learn from Taoist master Mantak Chia after many years of studying and teaching his practices, Healing Tao Meditations. She also enjoys weekends away in nature, mountain biking with partner Mike. Her main aim this year is to continue capturing those “special moments” in people’s lives while growing the business she loves. She took the colourful photographs for our regular motoring story on page 150.
