To 30 July, City Gallery Wellington A major survey of works by Colin McCahon from the 1960s and 1970s explores Maori motifs, language, histories and sites, acknowledging Maori as tangata whenua and demonstrating emerging biculturalism in New Zealand art. Spanning the City Gallery’s entire first floor, On Going Out with the Tide includes The Canoe Tainui which recently sold for $1.35 million – the highest price paid for a painting at auction in Aotearoa.
