To 30 July, City Gallery Wellington A major survey of works by Colin McCahon from the 1960s and 1970s explores Maori motifs, language, histories and sites, acknowledg­ing Maori as tangata whenua and demonstrat­ing emerging bicultural­ism in New Zealand art. Spanning the City Gallery’s entire first floor, On Going Out with the Tide includes The Canoe Tainui which recently sold for $1.35 million – the highest price paid for a painting at auction in Aotearoa.
