Snapshot: LEE-ANNE DUNCAN
Past: A former – but still ridiculously parochial – Dunedinite, Lee- Anne has a background in broadcast journalism, having worked for TV3 and RNZ in New Zealand, then lending her Kiwi vowels to Reuters TV and BBC World TV in London. Returning to settle in Wellington, she leapt into television production at The Gibson Group, working on the TV3 show No8 Wired, now sadly put out to pasture. That programme taught her a lot about pasture... Having the first of two children meant it was easier to work from home, so she started writing for PR companies and magazines, including NZ Life & Leisure, which kindly published her first story back in 2008. Present: NZ Life & Leisure continues to publish Lee- Anne’s stories and she has the pleasure of interviewing some pretty interesting people, such as the French potter and French ambassador in two separate stories in this issue ( page 90 and page 106). In between providing copy ( particularly digital and plain English) for public and private organizations, Lee- Anne loves to string sentences together for non- profits, volunteering her writing skills to The Community Comms Collective and charities belonging to the One Percent Collective. It makes her feel good to share the stories of people living a good life and doing good – which is, yeah, good… Future: While Lee- Anne has always said she lacks a creative writer’s imagination, she’s thinking seriously about taking a short- story course later this year. Said out loud, she now has to do it. That should come just before she and her family fly off to ski in Colorado, having become more excited about skiing following her first Northern Hemisphere skiing experience this Christmas past. If her knee injury from that trip heals, she might also even enjoy it.
