Behind the scenes

Past: There is a cabinet in Leanne’s Auckland home full of high heels. She refers to its contents as her “car- park shoes”. When she worked in the corporate world of international magazine publishing, the shoes were part of her daily life. All the editors wore them. They never had far to walk, thanks to the company car park that came with the job. After more than a decade in fashion, lifestyle and interiors publishing, Leanne decided it was time to retire her heels to the hall cabinet and do her own thing.

Present: These days, she spends much time working at home in her pyjamas and slippers. When she does venture out to produce lifestyle content for her agency Cave Bureau, you’ll most likely find her in sneakers. Cave has a focus on design, interiors, food and travel, working on projects that range from shooting content for digital platforms to a new series for NZ Life & Leisure on entrepreneurs called Work- life- balance. (See page 72.) “Launching Cave has given me great respect for those who succeed in running a business.” She loves her new life, collaborating with Cave’s team of creatives. “Working with others, and being open to ideas, can produce exciting results.”

Future: Instead of retiring, Leanne wants to spend the rest of her life traveling, staying in cities around the world where she can pretend to be a local. And create content for Cave at the same time. “That’s my kind of holiday. I love going to other cities and doing what

I do here in Auckland. My husband and I eat in cafés and restaurants that the locals like and we always find a little neighbourhood cinema to frequent. When we were in New

York, we went to the movies twice.”
