Milking made MOBILE
You might think your block is too small to be a dairy farm, but Roland Lee and Melanie Phillips are living proof it’s probably not.
Their new business is building mobile milking units for small-scale farms which would allow anyone with a few cows to efficiently milk their herd and safely store the milk.
Commercial dairy cows usually walk kilometres to get to the milking shed, but on Roland and Melanie’s land, the milking shed comes to the cows. The couple’s mobile, selfcontained, fully-equipped farm dairy premise is suitable for milking 2-24 cows.
“It’s for people who would like to milk cows on a small and sustainable scale. Some lifestyle blocks could support six or so cows. Alternatively adjoining lifestyle blocks could be worked together to run a small herd. Little dairy farms that have become uneconomic and generally no longer have operational or compliant dairies could utilise a Mobile Mini Milker to get going quickly and affordably again.
“There is a growing demand from customers for farm fresh milk so we think the timing is right, and with our Mobile Mini Milker solving the problem of no cowshed, we think small scale dairying is once again a viable option.”
