4 ways to help the fire service help you
• MAKE sure your driveway has its Rural Address Property Identification Number (RAPID) in an easily-seen spot at the entrance to your block.
• DESIGN your driveway to be wide enough to accommodate emergency vehicles (at least 4m x 4m of clear space) and maintained so it is easy to navigate.
• HAVE water storage. Rural fire crews do have tanker trucks but an easily-accessed source of water is vital. Make sure tanks or other storage units are not under or close to power lines.
IF YOU have a bore or other water access like a nearby creek or pond, make sure it is clearly marked so it’s easy for a fire crew to find if it’s not visible due to gardens or trees.
