Pear pastries

15g sliced almonds 2 sheets ready-rolled puff pastry milk or beaten egg for glazing stewed pears

METHOD

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly toast slithered almonds in a dry frying pan and set aside. Cut 12 pear shapes from the pastry using a pear-shaped 8cm x 6cm cookie cutter and place four of these on a greased oven tray. Use a fork to prick the pastry, leaving a 6mm border. On the remaining eight pear shapes, cut a pear shape inside the first pear shape using a knife, and remove, leaving behind pear-shaped borders. Place three pear borders on top of each full pear shape and brush with glaze. Fill with stewed pears and sprinkle almonds on top. Place in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
