FLAME THROWER!

-

Somewhat of an outlaw in his youth, Max Flower turned his back on the streets and their consequent police chases and built one hell of a wild car in which to hit the track. His 26B turbo FD RX-7 was built with drifting in mind but with a show finish to boot. For a few years after the shoot, the FD did the show rounds and collected awards at all the top ones, and we even filmed it starring in a flaming burnout advert with Adrenalin R, which went on to get over half a million views.

Max has been quiet on the event front lately, as the FD is undergoing an extensive rebuild before some serious track work can be undertaken. An all new 26B is being pieced together using JC Cosmo plates, FC RX-7 housings, FD rotors, and RA Aviation apex seals. Like the previous motor, it will be side ported, but, this time around, the boys at Dynopower have carried out a ton of trick machine work internally to assist reliability.

In the quest for more power, a new BorgWarner turbo of gigantic proportions will team with dual 60mm Turbosmart wastegates to handle boost. The fuel system has been upgraded with 12 Bosch XR 1600cc injectors, an Aeromotive fuel reg, and three Bosch 044 main pumps. The oil system has also been upgraded from wet sump to a Peterson three-stage dry sump with external pump, which feeds oil directly to the rotor bearings. Other custom work includes a new inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, and five-inch exhaust with dual Adrenalin R mufflers.

With the new engine now going back together, Max plans to have the rebuild sorted by later this year, so expect the FD back out there and screaming this coming summer.
