GT-R RECORD DOUBLES DOWN

-

Last issue, we broke the news that Australian-based tuning house Croydon Racing Developments (CRD) had scooped the RB-powered GT-R drag racing world record from local drag racer Robbie Ward of Rotorua Import Pro Shop (R.I.P.S) Racing. The team at CRD bettered Ward’s time by just 3/1000ths of a second, running a 7.282s at 189mph (304kph) with the ‘JUN II’ R32 GT-R.

The benchmark has been toppled again, only three weeks later at the time of writing, courtesy of Maatouks Racing with the infamous ‘KING32’ GT-R. Racing at Sydney Dragway, the car ran a 7.18 at 193mph (311kph) straight off the trailer, backing it up with a 7.17 at 194mph (312kph) on its second run.

The passes secure KING32 and the Maatouks Racing team the title of not only the fastest but also the quickest street-legal GT-R in the world. On the feat, driver Anthony Maatouk stated: “11 months ago KING32 took the world by surprise breaking records week by week … myself and the Maatouk racing team decides to enjoy the summer break and sip on some Coronas … To their credit CRD, three weeks ago surprised us all with Robs car JUN11 smashing the record with a pass of 7.28 @ 189mph. It was time to pack away those Eskies and get KING32 out of its box.

“Today … KING32 re broke its own record again with a PB and a WORLD RECORD … Thank you to the Maatouk racing team, and all my friend[s] and family … the best is yet to come.”
