PUTTING IT TO USE

-

Now you’re ready to measure. To do this you need to remove the spring, but first measure your ride height. Do this on a Mcpherson style strut take a measurement of the struts lenght when its loaded at ride height. Remove the spring and set the hub up at ride height once more, using a trolley jack. Now bolt on your hub plate and set up the dial-gauge mount so that it’s pointing at the centre mark on your hub plate. Reset the dial gauge to zero, and, using your jack, shift the hub through its complete compression stroke, noting the gauge readings at differing measurement markings on your hub plates. To work out how much compression you have, photos from the track when cornering, if you’re lucky enough to have these, it will give you a great indication; otherwise, an educated guess will have to do. Now lower the jack back to your ride height, ensure that the gauge is zeroed, and measure on the droop cycle using the same method. Ensure the hub plate remains level throughout the process.
