MOVE OVER LIME SCOOTERS
Do you love a good rental racer? Forget having to go on holiday to throw away all mechanical sympathy and get up to no good in a car you don’t own — the company behind the infamous Lime scooters is looking to replicate its success with full-sized cars!
Jokes aside, the ride-share craze has hit Kiwiland heavy, and streets of the main centres have been overrun with white, black, and green pathwaypesters. That same concept could soon be transferred to a two-seater car that you locate on a smartphone app, hire by the minute, then leave at the nearest car park when you are done.
These ‘ LimePods’ are the latest venture from Lime’s corporate headquarters, and the company has said that it plans to obtain permission from the Auckland Council to park the pods in council-controlled spaces.
Drivers will need to be preapproved before being granted access to the LimePods, with approval reliant on having held a full license for at least a year and a clean driving record. Once you’ve got the green light (pun intended), you will pay US$1 (NZ$1.44) to unlock the car, and then up to US40c (NZ$0.60) per minute to hire a LimePod.
Car sharing isn’t exactly a new concept, and the LimePods have been active in the US since mid-last year; however, it will be the first time that anything has been launched locally. Thought parking in the CBD was bad enough now? Wait until these things are badly parked everywhere.
