Wellington Sevens to switch to Auckland

The New Zealand Rugby Union has pretty much run up the white flag and decided that hosting the World Series leg of the Sevens is not commercially viable. The tournament made a big loss in 2017 and the union is now actively looking for alternative venues.

No doubt a few regions will be interested, but Auckland, with its size and international air connections is probably the most cost effective and therefore least risky option for NZR.
