DUNSTAN HIGH SCHOOL

If they can get their defence to work consistently, Dunstan will steal more than a few games in 2017. At times capable of beating King’s and OBHS second XV, the Alexandra school would then drop their guard a week later. Only two points off the playoffs, the side were renowned for their guts throughout the 70 minutes and little will change under new coach Garry Marsh, with an added emphasis this year on the team culture and composure.

Ten of last year’s squad are back and the backline has spark. Otago Country rep Max Duncan at fullback is an explosive force with stepping ability off both feet. Jack Clark at centre will captain the side and his personal qualities are matched by his vision, defence and powerful running.

Playing an expansive game, Dunstan can rely on great service from halfback Brayden Laing who is part of the Highlanders development set-up. If coach Marsh can build consistency, their goal of the semifinals should come to fruition.
