Parsons has lost the captaincy but none of his experience and skill so will be relied upon by Umaga to set the standard among the forwards again this year.

The hooker has a sense of humour but is probably one of the most competitive individuals in the team. He is constantly driven towards self improvement and, after undergoing shoulder surgery late last year, will be desperate for a good start to the season.

Parsons is a big reason for North Harbour’s rise over recent years. Once a shambolic outfit, last year they made the Premiership semifinals only to fall to eventual champions Canterbury.
