NEW ZEALAND 63 CANADA 0
Played under the roof at Oita Stadium on Kyushu Island, this game was affected by the heat and humidity.
Inside the stadium the temperature was about 25 degrees and humidity close to 80 per cent which meant there was sweat everywhere.
But this is what the All Blacks wanted. They had trained with a wet ball the whole time they had been in Japan and they wanted demanding conditions to stretch them to breaking point physically.
Selection-wise they were able to introduce Jack Goodhue who had recovered from a damaged hamstring and Rieko Ioane – to give him a chance to put some pressure on the incumbents.
The All Blacks handled the ball a record 400 times and dropped it 12 times – an impressive return given the conditions.
They scored nine tries against a Canadian team that held up better than expected and made life tougher than predicted.
All up, the All Blacks were largely happy with their performance, although they knew they lacked accuracy for periods.
